To reach the best candidates for any job posting, your company will have to make the most of its time, effort, and money.

Your advertisement should be clear, enticing, and have lots of exposure (i.e. be posted on several different outlets)

Not sure where to start? You’re not alone. Most companies without an internal hiring team struggle with just this.

New to the advertising game? Follow these helpful tips and find great candidates:

Be clear and concise

Describe the responsibilities of the position in an appealing but clear way, detailing the most important duties first.

Use a list format (easier to read) to describe requirements like the desired level of education, experience, or other skills or certifications that the candidate should possess.

Don’t forget to provide clear directions on how to apply for the job! An obvious but often overlooked aspect of a job posting.

Focus on employer branding

The reality is, you only have a few lines to describe your company. Ensure you include the basics, but also the most interesting and attractive info about being an employee there.

As well, in today’s digital age – There is a plethora of information readily available to the candidates wanting to do a bit of research on a company.

Specifically, candidates will likely go check out your company’s LinkedIn page. Encourage current employees to get good images and have complete profiles so that potential applicants can see who they would be working with.

Other sites like Glassdoor let current and past employees review employers. The takeaway here? Make sure your company is actually a great place to work and your employees might do some of your employer branding for you.

Use targeted jobsites

Today, there are countless websites available that will allow you to post your job opening for free. Both Indeed and Glassdoor are great options.

There are also some jobsites that allow you to be more specific with industry, location, and experience level – Read this list from Good.co

If it’s free to post, there’s no excuse not to post to them all. Even though this can be time consuming, there are helpful Applicant Tracking Systems that are both affordable and easy to use if you are trying to keep track of hundreds of applicants! (Check out Jazz)

Get social

Facebook, the world’s most popular social network, is not a job board. There is no ‘post a job’ feature on Facebook.

But here’s the thing.

There are over 1 billion users active on Facebook every single day. Your perfect candidate may not be actively seeking work, but the chances they have a Facebook account are quite high.

Luckily for employers, Facebook’s advertising platform is both cheap and incredibly user-friendly. With even just $5 per day, you can reach thousands, and be very targeted (age, gender, experience level, location) with your ad.

If you want to be even more cost effective on Facebook, encourage current employees to share a status about the job opening. Networking can be key for career opportunities.

Consider using LinkedIn groups as well. There are tons of job-specific, industry-specific, groups available to you. This way, you can post an entire job description or just a blurb to a very targeted and relevant audience this way.
